Fragen und Antworten

What is the price range for water filters between cheap and reliable?

There is a wide price range when it comes to water filters. This depends on technology details, materials, and reliability. Are low-cost reverse osmosis filter systems truly high-quality direct flow systems that do not require a tank and still filter up to 2.3 L/min of pure water? Check whether and how often the membranes (the heart of the system) need to be replaced. Ideally, there are MULTIPLE Filmtec membranes that operate reliably without frequent replacement. Also check how safe and pure the plastic materials are in a low-cost filter system. Here you can find additional aspects to consider before purchasing.
Flow-through filters such as ShowerShield shower filters or lime and bacteria filters like WAV or WaterSavior are more affordable because they use a different technology – but still consist of high-quality materials.

Do BE WA filters also remove limescale? Does this mean you no longer need to descale a coffee maker or kettle?

Limescale is completely filtered out. That’s right, descaling is no longer necessary. No new deposits will form. Existing ones will gradually dissolve.

Is it possible to supply the whole house with filtered water?

Our drinking water filtration systems are typically installed under the kitchen sink (WA3, WA7, WA9) or near the dishwasher or washing machine (WAV). To supply the entire house, a flow rate of approximately 10 liters per minute is temporarily required. This works with our industrial systems, but they are expensive. For the purest water, special pipes would need to be installed throughout the house. A better solution would be a combination of the WA7 in the kitchen and the WAV for the washing machine and dishwasher.

How does the water filter installation work?

The installation (WA3, WAV, WA7) is usually done under the kitchen sink. You can install it yourself or have a local plumber do it. It uses a standard cold water connection. Even for beginners, the installation takes approximately half an hour to an hour. The portable filter system (WA1) is connected directly to the faucet as needed. Instructions can be found in our user manuals.

Is fluoride filtered out of the water?

Yes, fluoride is filtered out of the water. These are salts of hydrofluoric acid. Here you will find an overview of the filtered substances.

Are the water filters protected against recontamination?

Backflow protection is provided by BestElements Directflow reverse osmosis filter systems WA3, WA7, and WA9.

The risk of backflow generally only exists with filter systems featuring an outdated design with a storage tank and permeate pump in multi-stage filters.

BestElements Directflow systems operate without a tank and meet the requirements of DIN EN 1717 Category 2, thus preventing backflow under normal operating conditions.

The ultrapure water section is protected by multiple check valves.

The ultrapure water section is permanently pressurized.

The wastewater section is protected by multiple check valves.

For purely physical reasons, wastewater cannot enter the ultrapure water system.

Optional:

A hollow fiber membrane can be installed for critical locations.

A separate outlet can be installed for critical wastewater situations.

Regardless, the following always applies: Never hang dishcloths over the tap!

What substances are filtered out by the water filter device?

Filtration results BestElements reverse osmosis drinking water filter: Here you will find an overview: These substances are filtered out of the water with the BestElements reverse osmosis water filter.

What do I do if there is a problem with the filters?

The BestElements team is quickly accessible via a dedicated contact person – even outside of normal business hours in emergencies. A statutory right of withdrawal and a statutory warranty apply. Should any further problems arise, we will provide prompt, solution-oriented, and unbureaucratic assistance.

Where can I find answers to specific questions about the filters?

We are happy to answer your questions personally here.

What is the drinking water quality? Should the water be filtered?

The portal wasseralarm.net provides information on this topic. Drinking water analysis stipulates that approximately 50 of up to 2,000 substances in drinking water must be tested for. Water suppliers comply with the drinking water limits in most cases. When contamination is discovered, drinking water warnings are issued immediately – almost daily, as these reports show. UNESCO has penalized Germany, the EU has threatened legal action, and the EU and WHO are calling for lower limits. For example, hormone-like substances, drug residues, and pharmaceutical residues are not tested for in drinking water analysis, so exceedances cannot be detected. A few PFAS substances were only recently added to the list. Reports on this can be found here: Important reasons to filter your water.

They say: Dirt cleanses the stomach… does that also apply to dirty drinking water?

This may be true in cases where our immune system is strengthened. However, this does not apply to hormones, drug residues, pharmaceutical residues, nitrates, pesticides from fertilizers, and many other substances that are detected in our drinking water almost daily.

How much filtered water can be drawn per minute from a water filtration system?

High-performance models deliver up to 2.3 liters of pure drinking water per minute using the direct flow method (BE WA7 water filter). A tank is generally not required with our direct flow filter systems.

Can kitchen appliances be connected to the filter systems?

Yes, kitchen appliances with a water connection, such as coffee machines, dishwashers, washing machines, or refrigerators with ice makers, can be connected. We have developed special filter units for this purpose.

Is a power connection required?

There are various filter models. Some models require electricity for automatic control. The filtration process itself occurs without electricity.

Where will the filter system be installed?

In most cases, the unit is installed under the kitchen sink (WA3, WAV, WA7). Mobile filter systems (WA1) are available as needed. A separate stainless steel drinking water tap is included with most systems. A 3-way tap is also available as an option.

Can I install these filter systems myself?

Yes, the systems are designed for easy self-installation. Instructions are included with the delivery. Alternatively, a regular plumber in your area can do it.

Is reverse osmosis water suitable for baby and children’s food?

Yes, drinking water from pure, high-quality filtration systems is suitable for baby and children’s food. [This is how osmosis and reverse osmosis work]

Does pure drinking water help with allergies or eczema?

Studies have investigated the link between contaminated drinking water and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. These studies found a direct correlation between drinking water quality and increased incidence of these diseases. Doctors and alternative practitioners recommend that clean drinking water supports the healing process.

What follow-up costs/maintenance costs can I expect?

Water filtration systems come with pre-filter cartridges as a set. In residential systems, these should typically be replaced annually. Here you can find the costs of replacement filter sets.

Air purifier are replaced as needed; here you can find the costs of replacement filters.

Do any devices or filters need to be replaced?

Reverse osmosis systems have pre- and post-filters that remove additional substances. We recommend replacing these annually. The actual reverse osmosis filtration process takes place in the membrane, which only needs to be replaced in exceptional cases. Replacement filter elements for BE WA drinking water filters.

Air purifiers have filter elements that need to be replaced as required, usually once a year. Depending on the model, the devices will indicate when the filter needs changing. Replacement filter elements for BE AIR air filters.

Upon request, we will notify you when the filter media needs to be changed.

Is the filtering done with electricity or chemicals?

No, the natural filtration process occurs without electricity or chemicals. Some systems only have a power connection for control purposes.

What should you pay attention to when choosing a reverse osmosis system?

Because filtered water has a high solubility, it is important that the systems offer maximum material purity; otherwise, impurities from plastics or metal alloys will be released back into the drinking water, which would be harmful to health. Ensure that production complies with German standards and regulations and that only the purest materials are used. Here you will find a selection of highly suitable filter systems.

Why is pure drinking water healthier?

Pure drinking water has sufficient capacity to absorb minerals, trace elements, and electrolytes, transport them to the cells, and remove waste products from the intercellular tissue.

Contaminated water, which already contains foreign substances, can transport fewer substances to the cells and remove fewer waste products.

This is comparable to a wheelbarrow: If it’s already half full of construction debris, you can transport less debris. [This is how osmosis and reverse osmosis work]

Can minerals be flushed out of the body by drinking excessively pure water?

Minerals are absorbed through food, and water’s role is to distribute and transport them throughout the body. When the stomach is filled with food and the minerals it contains, these minerals are broken down by stomach acid, absorbed, and transported throughout the body along with the water. This creates a state of equilibrium, preventing minerals from being flushed out. Flushing out minerals would only occur with exceptionally high water consumption of approximately 6-10 liters per day combined with an inadequate diet, which in itself would be unhealthy. [more about minerals in the body]

Doesn’t the body need minerals?

Absolutely right. And they are almost entirely absorbed through food. Humans simply cannot meet their needs with minerals from water alone. The amounts dissolved in water are far too small, even in waters with a particularly high mineral content.

One would have to drink up to 10 liters of water daily to ingest the required amount – even disregarding the tolerance barrier of minerals dissolved in water. The body demonstrably absorbs minerals dissolved in food much more easily and efficiently. Even mineral water bottles carry the advice: Ensure a balanced diet. [more about minerals in the body]

Is distilled water harmful?

Grandma once warned us: “Don’t drink distilled water.” But why? And why is this warning wrong?

Rain is water that condenses after evaporating. This is precisely the process that occurs during distillation. Rain is essentially distilled water and has provided drinking water for animals and humans for millennia.

When rainwater falls on ripe fruit, for example, the natural process of establishing a saturation equilibrium draws water through the fruit’s peel into the interior. This process is called osmosis. Since the internal substances cannot pass back out through the skin because they are too large, more and more water penetrates the fruit – until it bursts. Grandma saw this and warned us about it.

What she didn’t consider is that the water we drink immediately mixes with saliva, stomach acid, food pulp, and minerals, thus creating a saturation equilibrium.

And if Grandma had observed that cats and dogs prefer to drink pure rainwater, even preferring it to tap water, and that they live healthy lives, she would have known: Drinking distilled water, rainwater, or pure spring water is not harmful but rather healthy for the body.

Reverse osmosis water is not distilled water; it’s produced through a different filtration process, and it’s purer. The reverse osmosis filtration process also removes distillate components such as oxyacids, essential oils, and hydrosols. [How osmosis and reverse osmosis work]

Which drinking water filters are useful?

Sediment filters remove suspended solids of various sizes, while activated carbon filters also remove gases such as chlorine. Both filters are a useful addition to the main filtration system. Important: These filters must be replaced regularly, as the residues remain in the filter. Reverse osmosis achieves the highest filtration quality.

The filtration performance is purer than one millionth of a millimeter. This removes not only bacteria, pesticides, and nitrates, but also antibiotics, dissolved salts, amino acids, dyes, flavorings, fragrances, viruses, and much more. With reverse osmosis, all residues are carried away with the wastewater and do not remain in the filter. Therefore, there is no risk of recontamination.

Good filtration systems remove: bacteria, viruses, organic substances, arsenic compounds, lead, cadmium, sulfate, phosphate, chloride, nitrates, dioxins, radioactive elements, pesticides, chlorine, sediments, unpleasant tastes and odors, as well as other soluble and insoluble substances. Here you will find a selection of good filter devices.

How can I test my tap water?

To measure selected components, comprehensive laboratory analyses are available that specifically examine various groups of substances. There is also a rapid test that measures the conductivity of all dissolved substances. You can find the rapid test here. [Link to drinking water tests]
