Hydrogen against oxidative stress, one of the main causes of diseases of the nervous system

Neurodegenerative diseases affect the nervous system with progressive loss of nerve cells. Oxidative stress (OS) is one of the causative factors in the pathogenesis of various neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and cognitive dysfunction.

Memory enhancing performance, Effective in treating neurodegenerative diseases, Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive dysfunction

Study DOI 10.3390/ijms222413313 investigated the effects of hydrogen gas (H2) on trimethyltin (TMT)-induced neurotoxicity and cognitive dysfunction. Taken together, the results showed that 2% H2 inhalation produced memory-enhancing activity and decreased AD, OS, and inflammation-related markers. Therefore, hydrogen could be a candidate for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases with cognitive dysfunction.

After H2 application, memory deficits were improved and inflammatory cytokines in the brain were significantly reduced. Vascular growth factors were increased after H2 treatment.
