Others, like Felanitx, have adequate water to the east and Sa Punta, but not to the west. According to the Ministry of Health, the tap water in Can Picafort is drinkable, but not in Santa Margalida. A similar situation prevails in Sencelles and Manacor. In general, the causes in Spain are the presence of bacteria in drinking water, the uranium content and pesticides.

Especially in Mallorca, a high nitrite content is the main reason why the water is not suitable for human consumption. Chloramine leads to the formation of nitrites, writes the ministry in its annual study. The greatest health risk is for infants, and nitrites have also been linked to gastric cancer.
