Toxic mercury in water bodies

Complaint for clean water German environmental aid

The German Environmental Aid (DUH) wants to legally oblige the state of North Rhine-Westphalia to take more action against harmful mercury in water. The environmental protection organization has filed a “lawsuit for clean water” against the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The largest proportion of mercury emissions in NRW comes from coal-fired power plants.

The Federal Environment Agency warns: Mercury is toxic to humans. In the case of chronic stress, the mercury primarily attacks the nervous system.

The German Environmental Aid has filed a lawsuit with the Higher Administrative Court in North Rhine-Westphalia to legally force the state to take stronger action against the contamination of water by toxic mercury – and thus against possible chronic long-term stress on the human nervous system. According to the environmental organization, the legal limit for mercury, which is harmful to aquatic organisms and humans, is exceeded across the board in NRW. Despite this, the state government has not included any concrete measures to reduce mercury emissions in its program of measures. With its lawsuit, Deutsche Umwelthilfe wants the country to be obliged to change this in court.

Quick and safe solution with water filters at home

It remains to be seen whether this official step will bring the desired success. A short-term and thorough solution is therefore very unlikely to be expected. The alternative is individual protection with water filters that reliably remove mercury components. Reverse osmosis technology is generally able to do this, provided that materials and filter components are used in the construction of the water filter that have been tested and are safe in the long term to filter the purest drinking water. This is demonstrably the case with BestElements water filters – which are manufactured in Germany in accordance with local regulations and strict controls. The filter devices are preferably connected in the kitchen under the sink and reliably filter toxins such as mercury and countless other impurities from the tap water in the long term, which are not even checked and recorded by the Drinking Water Ordinance.

Microplastics are everywhere in water and food

One of the now six out of nine planetary boundaries that have been crossed is plastic pollution. Macro and microplastics contaminate our oceans, soil and even our drinking water. Microplastics can now also be detected in our bodies. The consequences are deadly: microplastic particles are everywhere in the air, in food and in drinking water. Microplastic-related diseases in humans and animals are on the rise.

Anyone who owns a reliable reverse osmosis water filter can protect themselves and their families in the long term and safely. Despite the minimal size of the plastic particles, the filter technology is able to safely remove the substances from the tap water and filter drinking water free of impurities. However, the unfortunately sometimes expensive filter devices are a purchase for decades and everyone in the household can benefit from them for decades. You can be sure that the filter devices manufactured in Germany meet the strict safety standards in Germany and that only the purest filter materials are used.
