A third of the area of Germany is covered with forest, but our forest in Germany is doing badly. Around 300 million trees have died in the last three years – more than ever before. Causes are heat, drought and pests.

Can our forest still be saved?

In order to allow forests to regrow quickly, especially fast-growing conifers were reforested in a similar way to plantations – above all spruces. However, spruce does not suffer from drought and heat. And monocultures have the disadvantage of pests like the bark beetle.

Mixed forest: let nature be nature

In earlier years there were significantly more beeches and oaks and, above all, mixed forests. Diversity is the secret of a functioning, intact and stable ecosystem.
